BRIDGES.

ABOUT BRIDGES:

A ceramic bridge is a great option when there is a natural tooth on either side of your missing tooth/teeth. This form of tooth replacement relies on the bridging of a false tooth anchored by a crown on either side that is cemented to natural teeth on either side. This means that the restoration is a single unit that joins multiple teeth. The natural teeth that anchor the bridge require preparation by trimming the circumference to allow for the crown to be placed over it like a cap.
There is a good chance that your dentist will not recommend a bridge in the case that the anchor teeth are healthy virgin teeth. In the event that the anchor teeth are already compromised or have previous composite restorations or root canal treatment, a bridge is a great option. This means that both the anchor teeth will also get a fresh makeover!
There are various materials that can be used to manufacture a bridge. The options include gold alloy metal, porcelain fused to metal, emax, cerec and zirconia. The most superior material, both aesthetically, durability and biocompatibility is the new generation of translucent zirconia. Apart from metal crowns and bridges, we are able to colour match your restoration to the adjacent teeth for an almost flawless appearance.

A bridge is a fantastic option for tooth replacement as it is intended to have a long lifespan due to being cemented in place. Of course we cannot predict the life of any treatment due to the various uncontrollable factors such as lifestyle, saliva quality, genetics and much more. In some instances where a patient is prone to tooth decay or gum disease, a bridge may not be the best option. A bridge should be considered along with the suitability of an implant. In the case an implant is not suitable, a bridge is often the better option; and visa versa. See more on implants here.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Ceramic Bridges are a fantastic alternative to dentures. This is a lab made ceramic tooth replacement option that is made from the same material as Crowns and Veneers. Your bridge connects 2 teeth with a pontic “hover” tooth. It is cemented in place so unlike dentures, you will not need to remove and clean your bridge daily. In fact, you will maintain it as per any of your original teeth. Your dentist will be able to discuss your options with you over a consultation.

Visit 1:

Your first visit will be a consultation during which your dentist will discuss your oral health needs. During this appointment the dentist will assess the suitability of your case for tooth replacement and which treatment might be most appropriate to your condition.

Visit 1A:

Ceramic restorations do not change colour and as such, you may wish to get teeth whitening prior to commencing this treatment. Your Ceramic Restoration will be colour matched to your adjacent teeth so choosing a colour is an important stage of the process. Teeth whitening involves 3 cycles of a locally produced Carbamide Peroxide gel to your teeth which is activated using a high intensity light. See more on Teeth Whitening here.

Visit 3:

This visit is when your dentist will trim your 2 teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth to the required shape for the restoration to be cemented on top. Depending on your case, we may take an initial impression so that we can prepare a temporary restoration to wear while the bridge is being manufactured. Following this, your teeth will be prepared and trimmed and then a final impression is taken and sent to the lab. A colour will be chosen for the purposes of designing an aesthetically accurate restoration which is almost undetectable to the eye.

Visit 4:

Your Bridge is fitted to check for any adjustment that may be required. Depending on the type of adjustment required, your restoration may be either adjusted in chair or be sent back to the lab to be remade from scratch to ensure the highest quality is achieved. In most cases, the restoration is a perfect fit and can be cemented in immediately. You are now the proud owner of a beautiful new tooth.

Payment Arrangements:

For ceramic restorations and any other dental treatment, we offer access to several payment plans. These plans are no-interest payment solutions, which will span over an extended period of time allowing you to pay fortnightly for your treatment. They have a $39 set up fee, and take minutes to get underway. If you have any questions or concerns, please call one of our friendly staff members on (03) 9729 0868.
