INDIRECT FILLINGS – INLAYS AND ONLAYS

Indirect restorations are the future of durable restorative dentistry. Also known as Inlays or Onlays, these fillings are an alternative to the traditional composite and metal fillings. They are externally prepared and cooked by technicians/artists. They are up to 8x stronger than enamel. Indirect restorations are prepared and inserted in a way that adds strength to the natural tooth.
– so in fact, they increase the overall strength of the left over tooth structure, unlike fillings. They also have a very high success rate and are fully contoured to the tooth to minimise “bacterial creepers”.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Metal and composite fillings are a thing of the past. Enter Indirect Fillings, also known as an Inlay or Onlay. These are lab made ceramic fillings that are made from the same material as Crowns and Veneers. It is a far superior form of restoration than your traditional form of filling. Your dentist will be able to discuss your options with you over a consultation.

Visit 1:

Your first visit will be a consultation during which your dentist will discuss your oral health needs. During this appointment the dentist will assess the suitability of your case for a ceramic restoration such as an Indirect Filling and what might be most appropriate to your condition.

Visit 1A:

Ceramic restorations do not change colour and as such, you may wish to get teeth whitening prior to commencing this treatment. Your Ceramic Restoration will be colour matched to your adjacent teeth so choosing a colour is an important stage of the process. Teeth whitening involves 3 cycles of a locally produced Carbamide Peroxide gel to your teeth which is activated using a high intensity light. See more on Teeth Whitening here.

Visit 3:

This visit is when your dentist will trim your affected tooth/teeth to shape for the restoration to be placed on top. First we will take an initial impression so that we can prepare a temporary restoration to wear while the final Inlay or Onlay is being manufactured. Following this, your tooth will be prepared and trimmed and then a final impression is taken and sent to the lab. A colour will be chosen for the purposes of designing an aesthetically accurate restoration which is almost undetectable to the eye.

Visit 4:

Your Inlay/Onlay is fitted to check for any adjustment that may be required. Depending on the type of adjustment required, your restoration may be either adjusted in chair or be sent back to the lab to be remade from scratch to ensure the highest quality is achieved. In most cases, the restoration is a perfect fit and can be cemented in immediately. You are now the proud owner of a beautiful new restoration.

Payment Arrangements:

For ceramic restorations and any other dental treatment, we offer access to several payment plans. These plans are no-interest payment solutions, which will span over an extended period of time allowing you to pay fortnightly for your treatment. They have a $39 set up fee, and take minutes to get underway. If you have any questions or concerns, please call one of our friendly staff members on (03) 9729 0868.
